Governor Kundi extends Diwali greetings, vows to address minority issues

PESHAWAR, Oct 20 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday extended warm greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali, describing it as a festival of light, hope, and goodwill that promotes peace, brotherhood, and harmony.
In his special message, the Governor said that all minorities living in Pakistan enjoy equal rights under the Constitution, and it is the responsibility of both the state and society to respect and facilitate the celebration of their religious festivals.
He emphasized that interfaith harmony and unity form the foundation of a strong and peaceful society.
Governor Kundi further said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always taken practical measures to safeguard the rights of minorities, ensure their representation, and address their issues.
He said that the PPP has played a historic role in empowering minorities politically, socially, and economically through constitutional and legal reforms.
He reaffirmed that the government is committed to providing all possible facilities to the Hindu community and other minorities in Pakistan while ensuring the protection of their religious and cultural rights.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Sikh community led by Sardar Parvinder Singh called on Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor’s House.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the issues faced by the Sikh community in Peshawar, including matters related to religious freedom and community facilities.
The delegation apprised the Governor of various problems being faced by the Sikh community and requested that the Gurdwara located in Saddar be reopened to facilitate the performance of religious rituals.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs to ensure an appropriate resolution.
 The delegation also invited the Governor to visit Nankana Sahib, which he graciously accepted.
The Sikh representatives further demanded that the Anand Karaj Bill be passed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to give legal recognition to Sikh marriage ceremonies.
 Governor Kundi assured them that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always taken practical steps to safeguard and promote the rights of minorities. He added that the party’s parliamentary leader in the provincial assembly, Ahmad Karim Kundi, would play a key role in advancing the bill.
Governor Kundi reaffirmed that all minority communities residing in the province enjoy equal constitutional rights and that the government is committed to addressing their concerns.
He appreciated the constructive role of the Sikh community and emphasized that interfaith harmony forms the foundation of a strong and peaceful society.
