PESHAWAR, Jul 07 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday strongly condemned the arrest of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Dera Ismail Khan District President Malik Farhan Afzal Dhap, calling it a clear sign of the provincial government’s panic and political victimization.
In a statement, Governor Kundi criticized the recent anti-encroachment operation in Dera Ismail Khan, alleging that under the guise of the drive, the government was targeting the legally owned properties of citizens for political revenge.
He asserted that peaceful protest against such actions is a constitutional and democratic right of every citizen.
Governor Kundi said the registration of an FIR and the arrest of Malik Farhan Afzal Dhap with armored police vehicles simply for raising the voice of the oppressed reveals not only the provincial government’s anxiety but also exposes the claims of police neutrality.
“The PPP has always stood for public rights and justice,” he said, adding that the success of the “Save the Province” protest on May 26 had clearly unsettled the provincial government, which is now resorting to cheap tactics in Dera Ismail Khan.
He further alleged that the provincial rulers have handed over the province to terrorists, with the police failing to maintain peace and instead engaged in political victimization.
He pointed out that while no action is taken against luxurious farmhouses and entertainment spots owned by the powerful along the banks of the River Indus in Kacha, the shops, homes, and properties of the poor are being demolished.
“This injustice will not go unaccounted for,” he warned.
