Governor KP visits NDMA, briefed on potential flood threats

ISLAMABAD, May 30 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi visited the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here on Friday where he was given a comprehensive briefing on the country’s potential flood threats.
The session, held in the presence of NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, included detailed updates from heads of various departments.
Officials informed the Governor about water levels and potential flood risks in the Indus, Kabul, Kurram, Kunhar, and Swat rivers. The briefing highlighted that Dera Ismail Khan and surrounding areas could face significant destruction in the coming days due to possible severe flooding.
Governor Kundi expressed concern over the increasing impacts of climate change, saying that extreme weather patterns are becoming more evident and are contributing to growing challenges.
He stressed the need for timely and effective measures to minimize loss of life and property.
Appreciating NDMA’s preparedness and preemptive strategies, the Governor assured full cooperation from the Governor House.
He emphasized establishing a one-window relief operation to ensure swift aid during emergencies, involving non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as well.
Governor Kundi also mentioned that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center intends to provide homes for flood victims in Dera Ismail Khan based on NDMA’s assessments.
He urged NDMA to facilitate the identification and provision of suitable land under its supervision to support the initiative effectively.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of NAVTTC, Gulmina Bilal Ahmed, met with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor House Islamabad to discuss the promotion of technical education in the province.
Governor Kundi highlighted NAVTTC’s vital role in empowering youth and supporting economic progress through skill development programs.
The two also discussed a proposal to allocate special quotas for children of martyred security personnel from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in vocational institutes named after Shaheed IG Safwat Ghayur. The initiative was praised as a meaningful tribute to national heroes.
They also consulted on potential scholarships for KP students in UK universities.
Additionally, the Chairperson handed over the NAVTTC registration certificate for Gomal University, which the Governor welcomed as a positive step for students in the province.
