PESHAWAR, Jun 27 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident in Swat Valley, where several tourists drowned due to the strong currents of the Swat River.
In a statement, the Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the bereaved.
Terming the incident as extremely tragic, he said, “We stand with the grieving families in this difficult time.”
Governor Kundi criticized the provincial authorities and relevant departments for negligence, saying that the victims could have been rescued in time had there been proper arrangements in place.
He stressed that the local administration should have ensured safety measures along the riverbanks, especially in light of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rains.
He further emphasized that the protection of tourists visiting from across the country should have been a top priority.
“Such unfortunate incidents are a matter of serious concern for tourism in the province,” the Governor said.
Governor Kundi called for a thorough investigation and immediate action against those responsible for the lapse in safety and emergency preparedness.
It is worth mentioning here that 18 tourists swept away by flash flood.
