Governor assures resolution of Kurram issues

PESHAWAR, Feb 22 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday assured that issues faced by the people of Kurram would be addressed with priority, saying that public service in line with the party manifesto and leadership’s vision remained among his foremost responsibilities.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Kurram, led by Rafiullah Chamkani, which called on him at the Governor’s House.
The delegation apprised the Governor of issues relating to communications, provision of clean drinking water and matters concerning federal departments in the district. Organizational matters of PPP in Kurram also came under discussion.
The Governor said a proposal was under consideration to arrange a grand delegation’s meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari after Eid al-Fitr to discuss problems being faced by the merged districts.
He said necessary directions would be issued to the relevant authorities for establishment of a passport office in Central Kurram and assured full cooperation in resolving issues related to the Election Commission.
Faisal Karim Kundi said he was fully aware of the problems being faced by the affectees of Central and Lower Kurram, adding that in the past, he had extended all possible assistance to Kurram affectees through the Red Crescent. He said he believed in serving the people of Kurram without discrimination of tribe or sect.
He emphasized that sustainable peace in the area was essential for lasting development, stating that peace would attract investors to explore mineral resources and other economic opportunities in the region.
The Governor said that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, departments were under the administrative control of the provincial government; however, he remained committed to facilitating the residents of Kurram in every possible way.
He alleged that funds allocated for the merged districts in the past were misused by the provincial government and said he had taken up the matter with the Prime Minister, stressing that redressal of injustices meted out to the people of the merged districts was imperative.
