RAWALPINDI, November 13 (APP):The Rawalpindi Women University (RWU) on Thursday successfully hosted its 4th International Conference on Contemporary World Challenges and Transformations, bringing together leading academics, researchers, and scholars from across Pakistan to deliberate on solutions to the pressing issues of the modern era.
The conference served as a vibrant platform for intellectual exchange, emphasizing the critical role of women’s empowerment, interdisciplinary research, and academic innovation in driving social progress.
Tahira Mushtaq, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, graced the occasion as chief guest, underscoring that “women’s education and empowerment are the foundation of a progressive and prosperous society.” She commended RWU’s growing academic influence and the government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen women’s access to higher education.
“Pakistan’s development and prosperity depend on ensuring that women have equal opportunities to contribute to national growth,” she said, congratulating Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (Pride of Performance, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), Vice Chancellor of RWU, and her team for successfully organizing the international conference.
In her welcome address, Dr. Bushra Mirza highlighted the importance of academic collaboration and interdisciplinary research in addressing global challenges. She said while scientific disciplines often dominate the spotlight, “social sciences hold equal importance in shaping sustainable and inclusive societies.”
“Bridging the gap between science and social sciences is vital for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she said, adding that RWU is advancing rapidly toward becoming a leading center of excellence in women’s education and research in Pakistan.
Former Vice Chancellor of RWU and current Vice Chancellor of Women University Bagh, Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal, expressed joy at returning to her former institution, calling RWU “a symbol of women’s empowerment and intellectual growth.” She emphasized the importance of inter-university collaboration, noting that such conferences not only expand academic horizons but also strengthen mutual understanding and national cohesion.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director of the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), who lauded RWU for its consistent academic contributions. She recalled that the launch of Learning Management Systems during the COVID-19 pandemic had been a milestone in sustaining educational continuity.
“Social sciences are directly linked to societal problems and their solutions. It is time researchers move from discussion to implementation,” she remarked, urging scholars to integrate networking, collaboration, and artificial intelligence into their work. Citing Iran’s model of sociological resilience, she encouraged young researchers to pursue actionable and community-oriented studies.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tahir Khaleeli, Vice Chancellor of Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak, who shared valuable insights on psychology and behavioral sciences.
The conference featured a series of research sessions, panel discussions, and poster presentations, where scholars proposed innovative ideas addressing contemporary global and national challenges.
The event concluded with a shield distribution ceremony, celebrating distinguished guests, researchers, and contributors — marking the successful culmination of an intellectually enriching and forward-looking academic gathering at RWU.
