Foolproof security being ensured across region: RPO

MULTAN, Jul 15 (APP):Regional police are ensuring foolproof security arrangements across the region during Muharram to avoid any untoward incident.
As per directives of the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, a comprehensive security plan was being executed across the region and not even a single untoward incident has been reported so far.
According to the security deployment list of the regional police office, a total of 440 mourning processions have been scheduled for the 9th and 10th of Muharram out of which 74 have been declared in category A as per the sensitivity.
Meanwhile, 575 Majalis will be organized on the 9th and 10th of Muharram of which 82 have been declared in category A.
To protect the mourning processions and Majalis across the region, a total of 6559 police officials along with 2868 volunteers would be deployed on the 9th of Muharram while 9283 police officials and 3500 volunteers would perform duties on the 10th of Muharram across the region.
Keeping in view the initiatives of maintaining peace and religious harmony, entry of 85 religious Ulemas has been banned in the region including 32 in Multan, five in Vehari, 36 in Khanewal and 12 in Lodhran while 159 persons have been listed
in the fourth schedule.
The regional police have also sought six companies of Army and five Rangers to deploy two army and two ranger companies in Multan, one army company at Vehari, two army and two Ranger companies at Khanewal and one army and one ranger company at district Lodhran.
On the other hand, 14 police reserves including seven in Multan, five in Vehari, four in Khanewal and two in Lodhran would remain alert to deal with any emergency-like situation.
However, the security arrangements were being monitored by the RPO Capt (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry while a main control room was also established for this purpose Drone cameras were also being used for strict monitoring of mourning processions and Majalis.
Law violators would be treated with iron hands under zero tolerance policy, RPO added.
