Food points penalized over hygiene violations

MULTAN, Jul 08 (APP):On the special directives of Director General Punjab Food Authority (PFA), Muhammad Asim Javed, the authority conducted a series of surprise inspections in Multan and Vehari, targeting food businesses violating hygiene and food safety regulations.
These operations resulted in heavy fines for various outlets including restaurants, sweets and bakers, breakfast points, and traditional Sohan Halwa units. Nearly 50 kilograms of substandard food items were confiscated and safely disposed of. A hotel at Bahawalpur Bypass Chowk was fined Rs20000 over unhygienic kitchen conditions, presence of rotten vegetables, and open spices.
One fast food outlet was also fined Rs20,000 over unidentified ingredients and unsafe water usage.
Sweets and bakers shop also faced hefty fines of Rs35,000 for use of banned China salt in food preparation.
A sohan halwa unit at Fawara Chowk was fined Rs 50,000 for adulteration with low-quality ingredients.
A restaurant at WAPDA office, Khanewal road, was penalized over Rs 40,000 for use of open spices and substandard ingredients. Two restaurants at Kashmir Chowk & Model Town were imposed Rs60,000 for use of expired food items, spoiled vegetables, and open spices.
A breakfast point at Shell Pump, Mailsi was faced Rs 5000 fine for expired carbonated drinks, dirty water collected in freezer. A fast food outlet at 505 Road, Burewala, was imposed Rs15,000 fine for use of expired bread in food preparation.
A milk shop at Canal road, A-Block Burewala was also imposed Rs 2,000 fine for sale of adulterated milk.
A sweet production unit at Thana Chowk Mailsi was fined Rs 25,000 for use of open and non-food-grade colors in sweets.
DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javed said that strict action would be taken against those involved in using substandard or banned ingredients in food preparation.
