MIRPUR (AJK), Jul 24 (APP):Flood emergency warning centers – cum – control rooms were being set up at district and tehsil levels in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in order to swiftly deal with any eventuality during rainy season following impending heavy rains and flood ravages in the seasonal nullahs and lakes particularly in the low-lying areas, the official sources said on Wednesday.
They told APP that the district-level emergency flood warning center were being set up under the supervision of the District Disaster Management Authority at offices of the Deputy Commissioners in ten districts of the state.
With the staffers of rescue 1122 and civil defence volunteers and Red Crescent Society, AJK , these centers will function round the clock for bringing about immediate safety steps in case of emergency in any part of the districts across the liberated territory
Deputy Commissioner Mirpur, Yasir Riaz Chaudhry said that the warning centers cum control rooms at district and sub division level would function round the clock to monitor and assess impending floods hazards besides getting alert to receive early warning from the higher authorities monitoring the flood situation in adjoining areas of Pakistan including the Jhelum district besides from the districts located at upper reaches of AJK, for immediate transmission of the population dwelling in the low-lying areas in the state.
People across AJK, the sources underlined, would be able to contact the concerned emergency centers of their concerned district to inquire about the forecast of the floods as well as in case of any emergent situation, he added.
