MULTAN, Dec 29 (APP):With the onset of winter, fish markets in Multan have witnessed a significant surge in activity as demand for fresh fish continues to rise amid falling temperatures.
From morning till evening, major fish markets across the city remain crowded with buyers, while vendors are seen busy catering to the increased demand. Traders say the trend is a regular feature of the winter season, as residents prefer fish for both its taste and health benefits during cold weather.
Fish vendor Muhammad Nawaz told APP that demand for fish increases every year as winter intensifies. “As the temperature drops, people consume more fish. It is widely liked in winter, which leads to higher sales,” he said, adding that a variety of fresh fish is currently available in the market, attracting a large number of customers.
A customer, Muhammad Hussain, said that fish consumption becomes routine for his family during winter. “Fish tastes even better in cold weather, and freshly cooked hot fish at home is truly enjoyable,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, nutritionist Dr Laiba, while speaking to APP, highlighted the health benefits of fish consumption during winter. She said fish is rich in protein, which provides energy and helps strengthen the immune system in cold weather. “Fish is also beneficial for heart patients; however, it should be consumed in moderation and preferably cooked with less oil,” she advised.
With the arrival of winter, Multan’s fish markets are not only bustling with buyers but are also meeting both taste and health needs, as fish continues to be a popular and nutritious choice among the public during the cold season.
