LAHORE, Sep 03 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday arrested two officials of the Customs Department allegedly involved in the illegal auction of vehicles through fake documentation and verification.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore carried out the operation and apprehended Maryam Jameela, serving as Deputy Collector, and Naeem Raza, posted as Assistant Collector in the Customs Department.
The arrested officials are accused of creating fake auction IDs, making fraudulent entries, and conducting bogus verification processes for vehicle auctions. The FIA said the suspects acted in connivance with other officials and private individuals, including personnel from the Motor Registration Authority.
Initial investigation revealed that the accused used these fake IDs to facilitate illegal auctions and manipulate records for personal gain.
The FIA has launched a thorough investigation, while raids are underway to apprehend other suspects involved in the racket, added spokesperson.
