MUZAFFARABAD, May 02 (APP): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly (AJK-LA) was told here on Thursday that the federal government would soon start rehabilitation work in the region at the cost of Rs. 10 billion to rehabilitate 8233 displaced families migrated from Indian occupied part of the Jammu and Kashmir due to atrocities.
Prime Minister of AJK Ch. Anwar Ul Haq told the House while responding to a Calling Attention Notice (CAN) of the Opposition Leader Khawaja Farooq Ahmad that the federal government had hinted of providing the required amount within days to implement a long-awaited project.
Under the proposed project, the homeless families migrated from the other side of the line of control (LOC) after 1989 due to Indian atrocities would be provided 4 marla land and an amount of Rs. 4.5 million to construct their home, the CAN said seeking the attention of the House towards delay in implementation.
He said that the government was responsible to provide basic amenities to the displaced families and steps were being taken to settle down these people so that they could live normal life.
Replying to another CAN of Shah Ghulam of PML-N, Minister for Public Works and Communications, Ch. Azahar Sadiq told the House that all the major roads closed due to the torrential rains in the region had been opened while link roads in Neelum Valley would be cleared within a day or two.
The Prime Minister while speaking on the notice, said that the people in AJK were in the habit of comparing the region with occupied Jammu and Kashmir in terms of development and efficiency of administration, they must know that Srinagar Jammu Highway had been closed for weeks during the recent rains resulting human casualties and loss of public property and cattle of the people.
