MIRPUR (AJK), Oct 28 (APP):Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority conducted surprise raids on various fast food out lets, biryani centers and hotels in Mirpur city and imposed fine for Rs 2 lakh for supply of substandard food, contaminated water and poor cleanliness conditions, at their food outlets.
According to Food Authority spokesman, the AJK Food Authority Mirpur team, conducted a surprise food safety action operation across the city making detailed inspection of various biryani centers, hotels, restaurants and fast food points.
During the inspection, unusable illegal food colors, non-iodized salt, contaminated drinking water and substandard sanitation conditions were found, on which immediate action was taken against the violators on the spot.
According to the food analyst’s report, the TPC of the oil was checked during the inspection, which was found to be 35, 41 and 26 against the prescribed limit of 24. As the results were substandard, 35 liters of rancid oil, worth about Rs 28,000, were destroyed on the spot.
The Food Authority took action under sections 22 (Sale of illegal and substandard food), 29 (Unsafe and Unhealthy Food) of the 2017 AJK Food Authority Act.
A total fine of Rs 2,00,000 was imposed under Section 18 (Power of Food Safety Officer to impose fine on the spot).
The team issued notices to several hotels and food points and collected samples on the spot and sent them to the laboratory for further analysis.
