MUZAFFARGARH, Oct 25 (APP):As part of the government’s intensified efforts to curb smog, authorities have warned farmers against burning leftover rice crop residues.
It cautioned that any violator would face ‘strict penalties’ including heavy fines and legal action in order to control the hazard.
According to a notification issued by Deputy Director Agriculture Kot Addu, Mian Akhtar Qureshi Saturday that anyone found burning crop remnants would be fined Rs.15,000 per acre, while cases would be registered under relevant sections of the law.
He said that the smoke released from burning crop residues is a major contributor to smog, leading to traffic accidents, respiratory illnesses, and loss of lives. To prevent such incidents, Section 144 has been enforced across the region.
Mian Akhtar Qureshi urged farmers to extend full cooperation to the administration, emphasizing that avoiding stubble burning would help protect public health and the environment.
