FAISALABAD, Nov 17 (APP): Faisalabad’s Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) from all Tehsils demonstrated their operational readiness and technical expertise at the International Emergency Response Team CERT Challenge, organized by Rescue 1122 Faisalabad at the Central Rescue Station.
The event was held under the special directives of Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Punjab Emergency Services Department, with District Emergency Officer Engr. Ehtisham Wahla overseeing the activities.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Zahid Latif, the challenge brought together volunteer teams from union councils across the district, providing a platform for them to showcase their practical emergency response capabilities.
A large crowd of rescue officers, personnel, and spectators attended the event, where participating teams performed live demonstrations in real-time emergency conditions. These included victim triage, first aid provision, rapid response to fire emergencies, search and recovery during building collapses, and rescue techniques for drowning incidents. Each team exhibited remarkable discipline, technical proficiency, and a deep commitment to responding effectively in emergency situations.
Engr. Ehtisham Wahla, the District Emergency Officer, emphasized that the core objective of the CERT Challenge was to train community volunteers with hands-on experience so they can save lives before professional rescuers arrive. He highlighted that the initiative to train citizens in basic first aid is expanding across schools, colleges, factories, institutions, and union councils in Faisalabad, and aims to ensure that every citizen in Pakistan is equipped with these vital skills.
At the conclusion of the event, Faisalabad City’s team was awarded a trophy and honorary certificates for their outstanding performance. This team will now represent Faisalabad at the National CERT Challenge, which will be held at the Punjab Emergency Services Academy.
