Extremism promoters on social media being dealt with iron hand: Khawaja Salman

LAHORE, Oct 24 (APP):Punjab Health Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that elements promoting extremism on social media are being dealt with an iron hand.
He expressed these views while chairing the 39th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order held at the Punjab Home Department on Friday. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation across the province and discussed measures taken to evacuate illegal Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan.
Provincial Minister Shafay Hussain attended the meeting in person, while Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar Khan joined through video link. Officials from the Home Department and law enforcement agencies briefed the committee on the current situation.
The Cabinet Committee approved the extension of Section 144 across Punjab until November 1 and directed authorities to ensure the maintenance of public order. The committee also emphasized the crucial role of religious scholars in promoting peace and harmony in society.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of the state. He said the law and order situation is under control across the province, adding that Islam is a religion of peace that does not permit any form of extremism. He reiterated that strict action is being taken against those spreading extremist content on social media.
He further stated that the process of repatriating illegal foreign residents in Punjab in a dignified manner is successfully underway.
Provincial Minister Shafay Hussain said that scholars have an important role to play in fostering unity among Muslims, while Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar Khan noted that, as per the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to ensure peace and security in the province.
Special Secretary Home Fazal ur Rehman, Secretary Auqaf Dr Syed Tahir Raza Bukhari, and Additional IG Police Chaudhry Sultan were among the attendees. DIGs from the Special Branch and CTD, Additional Secretary Internal Security Ehsan Ali Jamali, as well as Commissioners and RPOs from across Punjab, also participated via video link.
