Experts stress STEM-focused critical thinking in higher education

FAISALABAD, Oct 14 (APP):Experts have stressed the urgent need to revamp critical scientific thinking among students through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, which they said is essential for driving economic growth through innovation and equipping individuals to solve real-world problems in a technologically advanced world.
They were speaking at a one-day cascading training session titled “Project-Based Learning and STEM Education in Universities”, organized by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), Higher Education Commission (HEC), the British Council, and ORIC.
Prof. Dr. Amer Jamil, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, UAF, highlighted that STEM education nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities—skills crucial for preparing students for the modern job market and fostering innovation. He noted that STEM takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating various fields to develop a comprehensive understanding of real-world challenges.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Chairman of the Department, emphasized that STEM serves as the foundation for technological advancements that are transforming industries and everyday life.
Dr. Muhammad Kashif, Assistant Professor and STEM Trainer at UAF, added that STEM education enables learners to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems, enhancing both their academic experience and their ability to contribute meaningfully to society.
