PESHAWAR, Apr 08 (APP):In a significant diplomatic development, Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran has drawn widespread international appreciation.
The important breakthrough comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, where fears of a broader regional conflict had been steadily mounting that necessitated a ceasefire.
Dr. Adnan Sarwar Khan, former Chairman, International Relations Department at University of Peshawar while welcoming the ceasefire announcement said that it was largely possible due to the solid efforts of Pakistan.
“Pakistan has actively engaged in backchannel communications with both Washington and Tehran, leveraging its longstanding relationships to help de-escalate the difficult situation,” he said.
He said Pakistani officials reportedly urged restraint and emphasized the urgent need for dialogue over confrontation imperative for lasting peace in the Middle East.
Dr Adnan said Islamabad efforts has largely contributed to creating an environment conducive to negotiations, ultimately paving the way for a ceasefire between the two countries.
Manzoorul Haq, former Ambassador commended efforts of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, DPM/FM Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for two weeks long ceasefire between US and Iran.
He said that international community and media have largely appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role.
Manzoor said the crucial ceasefire will help smooth flow of oil trade through Strait of Harmuz and reaching final agreement between the two countries.
He said crisis in Middle East had escalated rapidly following a series of incidents that raised concerns about direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran.
Global markets reacted nervously, while regional allies braced for potential fallout following US-Iran conflict. In this tense atmosphere, he said Pakistan’s intervention was seen as timely and strategic.
He highlighted that Pakistan’s foreign policy has consistently prioritized peace, regional stability, and diplomatic engagement.
By acting as a neutral intermediary, Pakistan was able to maintain open lines of communication with both sides.
Analysts suggested that Pakistan’s credibility with Iran, coupled with its good working relationship with the United States, positioned it uniquely to play such a mediating role.
International observers have praised the inclusive effort, noting that middle powers like Pakistan can play a crucial role in conflict resolution. Several countries and global organizations welcomed the ceasefire and acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in achieving it.
The development has also reinforced Islamabad’s image as a responsible stakeholder in global peace initiatives.
Within Pakistan, political leaders across party lines expressed great happiness over the diplomatic success.
Government officials described the ceasefire as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and its growing influence in international diplomacy.
They emphasized that Pakistan would continue to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the volatile regions.
Experts believed that this episode could enhance Pakistan’s diplomatic standing on the world stage.
By demonstrating its ability to engage constructively with major powers, Pakistan may gain greater recognition as a mediator in future international disputes.
However, they also cautioned that sustaining such a role will require consistent policy direction and continued investment in diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, the ceasefire itself is being viewed as significant step toward economic stability. Both the United States and Iran have signaled a willingness to avoid further escalation at least for two weeks, although underlying tensions remain unresolved.
Analysts warned that maintaining the ceasefire will depend on continued dialogue and confidence-building measures.
Professor Dr. Zahid Anwar, associate professor at Political Science Department at University of Peshawar said that Pakistan’s role as mediator was globally recognized.
He said Pakistan has reiterated its readiness to assist in any future peace efforts if requested by the involved parties.
Zahid stressed that diplomacy must remain the primary tool for resolving conflicts, particularly in regions where the consequences of war could be devastating.
As the international community watches closely, Pakistan’s role in this ceasefire underscores the importance of dialogue, trust-building, and timely intervention.
While challenges still persist, the successful de-escalation offers a hopeful example of how diplomacy can prevail even in moments of intense geopolitical strain.
The experts expressed the hope that an inclusive peace agreement will be reached between the two parties during peroid of ceasefire imperative for lasting peace and development.
