PESHAWAR, Dec 24 (APP): Excise Intelligence officials on Wednesday foiled an arms smuggling attempt, arresting two suspects and recovering a cache of modern weapons and ammunition during a targeted operation.
The operation was conducted as part of an ongoing crackdown against illegal activities and was supervised by Saud Khan Gandapur, Provincial Incharge of the Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation.
Acting on a tip-off, Sub-Excise Inspector Shahzaib Khan led an intelligence team which intercepted suspicious movement and acted swiftly to prevent the unlawful transfer of weapons.
During the operation, officials recovered a 12-bore rifle along with three magazines and 100 rounds of ammunition, two 30-bore pistols with four magazines and 200 rounds, and a 9mm pistol with two magazines and 300 rounds of ammunition.
The weapons were being transported without valid licences.
The arrested suspects were identified as Shoaibullah son of Munawar Shah, a resident of Shakardarra, Kohat, and Akhtar Bilal son of Misri Jang Khan, a resident of Mianwali.
Both suspects were handed over to KDA Kohat Police Station for further legal proceedings. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
Officials said further interrogation would help uncover the broader arms smuggling network, including facilitators and other accomplices.
Senior excise officials lauded the intelligence team for their timely and professional action, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms, narcotics and organized crime.
They also urged the public to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies, stressing that public cooperation is essential for maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property.
