LAHORE, Nov 26 (APP):The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has made it mandatory for all commercial centres, shopping malls, plazas, offices, and educational institutions across the province to install five-color waste bins for source segregation.
Director General EPA Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh announced that strict action will be taken against all establishments failing to comply with the new requirement. He said the decision has been enforced with immediate effect in line with the Chief Minister’s clean and green Punjab initiative.
Under the new policy, separate bins must be placed at prominent locations for paper, glass, organic,
metal, and plastic waste, ensuring proper segregation at the source.
DG Imran Hamid Sheikh warned that violations will result in immediate legal proceedings under
the Environmental Act, with zero tolerance for non-compliance.
He added that improper and mixed waste disposal places an excessive burden on waste management
systems, making source segregation essential. The move is also aimed at boosting recycling efforts
across Punjab and directly contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11 and 13 related to sustainable cities and climate action.
DG Imran Hamid Sheikh reiterated that inspections are being intensified across Punjab and warned that all non-compliant institutions will face strict enforcement measures without exception.
