MULTAN, Apr 05 (APP):Balanced nutrition is crucial for ensuring the health, appearance, and proper weight gain of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid, experts emphasize.
Dr. Jamshaid Akhtar, Senior Veterinary Officer, told APP that a well-balanced diet supplies essential nutrients, including energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals. This helps animals gain weight steadily, strengthens their immunity, and reduces the risk of disease.
“Well-fed animals remain active, healthy, and visually appealing, while also producing better-quality meat at the time of sacrifice,” he noted.
He advised livestock owners to provide clean, fresh fodder, including both green feed and dry roughage, along with quality Wanda. Any dietary changes should be introduced gradually to avoid stress or digestive issues.
Dr. Akhtar also highlighted the importance of continuous access to clean water and cautioned against feeding moldy or stale fodder. Overfeeding should be avoided, with feed provided in balanced quantities.
Preventive care is equally vital, including regular deworming, vaccination, and maintaining clean, dry living conditions. During periods of extreme heat, animals should be given adequate shade and a cool environment.
He added that following the guidelines of the Punjab Livestock Department can help farmers raise healthy, strong, and high-quality sacrificial animals.
