HYDERABAD, Oct 09 (APP):Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal has emphasized that education was the most effective weapon to defeat terrorism, and that youth must be guided toward the responsible use of technology. He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on “Elimination of Extremism and Terrorism” held on Thursday at Dr. A.M Shaikh Auditorium at SAU.
According to the SAU spokesperson, Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal stated that terrorism across the globe can only be countered through the power of education, which also paves the way for peace and sustainable development. He noted with concern that tolerance among youth was gradually declining, and therefore, the university was actively increasing co-curricular and healthy activities to promote patience, resilience and positive engagement among students.
He further highlighted that education was the most powerful tool to protect societies from extremism and negative ideologies. Sindh Agriculture University, he added, is not only a center of excellence in agriculture, environmental sciences and scientific research but also plays a vital role in promoting social awareness, education and ethical values through various initiatives under the “Students–Teachers Engagement Program.”
Addressing contemporary challenges, Dr.Siyal stressed that in the face of climate change and emerging global threats, it was essential for youth to embrace modern technologies while avoiding their misuse, as irresponsible use can benefit hostile forces. He urged students to immediately report any suspicious activities to the university administration to ensure national security and public safety.
On this occasion, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Director University Advancement and Financial Assistance, underscored the importance of equipping youth with essential skills to establish lasting peace and sustainable development. He remarked that terrorism was not limited to guns and explosions; it was a psychological disease that spreads hatred, mistrust and division, and tackling it requires collective action.
Principal of the Foundation School Hyderabad Sidratul Muntaha Bhatti, Dr. Bakht Ali Noonari and other speakers also addressed the seminar, emphasizing the critical role of awareness and social responsibility among youth in building a peaceful society.
The seminar attracted a large number of students, faculty members, experts and social figures, reflecting a strong collective commitment to countering extremism through education and positive engagement.
