Education minister takes up teaching role
LAHORE, Sep 15 (APP):Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Tuesday started teaching at a government school on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, saying that personally teaching students would help assess ground realities and quality of education.
The minister reached Government Girls High School Ladhar and taught English and Mathematics to students of Classes III and V. Before starting the classes, he assessed the students’ learning levels and also spoke to them about ethics, cleanliness, patience and tolerance.
Rana Sikandar Hayat created a friendly learning environment and interacted closely with the students. The students expressed their affection for him, telling him, “Sir, it doesn’t feel like you are our new teacher.”
The minister also inspected the facilities at the school and announced installation of a new water cooler and establishment of three additional classrooms, besides robotics and STEM laboratories. He directed provision of complete equipment for cricket, badminton, football and other sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Sikandar Hayat said a new chapter had been added to the journey of educational reforms in Punjab. He said ministers visiting the field to assess departmental performance reflected Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s reform-oriented vision.
He said personally teaching a class was a unique practical model for monitoring schools and advancing educational reforms, adding that the initiative would provide firsthand knowledge of school conditions and the actual quality of education.
