PESHAWAR, Oct 23 (APP):Medical Officer Dr Sadaf Shaukat on Thursday said that breast cancer remains a significant health concern for women and emphasized that early detection and timely treatment can greatly improve recovery outcomes.
Speaking on Pakhtunkhwa Radio Swat’s program “Pakhtunkhwa Today,” Dr Sadaf Shaukat highlighted key symptoms of breast cancer, including a lump or thickening in the breast or underarm, changes in breast size or shape, nipple discharge, and skin changes.
She explained that the treatment plan depends on the stage and type of cancer and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, or targeted therapy. Common diagnostic tests include mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and tumor marker blood tests, she added.
Dr Sadaf Shaukat noted that risk factors for breast cancer include family history, genetic mutations, age, radiation exposure and lifestyle factors such as obesity.
She urged women to perform regular self-examinations, schedule routine mammograms, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and seek genetic counseling when appropriate.
She further emphasized the importance of consulting healthcare professionals for personalized medical advice and timely management, adding that awareness and preventive care are crucial for saving lives.
