BAHAWALPUR, Oct 20 (APP): The Hindu community across Bahawalpur district and the nearby Cholistan villages celebrated Diwali today with deep devotion and traditional splendour. The festival was marked by the lighting of earthen lamps, temple prayers, exchange of sweets, and modest fireworks, all carried out with an emphasis on safety and environmental responsibility.
In both urban and rural areas, homes and temples shimmered with rows of diyas, colourful rangoli patterns, and vibrant decorations. Devotees gathered in the evening for special prayers dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Rama, followed by the sharing of sweets and dry fruits with neighbours, symbolising joy, prosperity, and community bonding.
Similar celebrations were held in the remote Cholistan villages, where families came together for collective prayers and heartfelt observances of the festival, preserving the spirit of Diwali in its simplest and most meaningful form.
The festive spirit was further uplifted by the contributions of charitable organisations, including the Alkhidmat Foundation, which distributed gift packs and essential items to deserving Hindu families, ensuring that the joy of the festival reached every household.
The district administration and police ensured proper security and traffic arrangements, enabling peaceful celebrations across the region. Authorities also encouraged citizens to celebrate Diwali responsibly, urging limited use of fireworks to prevent smog and fire hazards.
Community leaders echoed the call for a “Green Diwali”, promoting the use of eco-friendly lamps, collective prayers, and culturally rich traditions in place of firecrackers.
The Diwali celebrations across Bahawalpur and Cholistan stood as a vibrant reflection of interfaith harmony, cultural diversity, and communal peace, showcasing the region’s commitment to inclusive and respectful festivities.
