BAHAWALPUR, Feb 12 (APP): An important review meeting of the District Emergency Board was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Committee Room under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza.
The meeting conducted a comprehensive review of fire safety measures across the district, including the functionality of fire hydrants and safety arrangements in commercial buildings. During the briefing, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122, Baqar Hussain, informed participants that strict enforcement of fire safety regulations is underway in major markets and commercial structures. He stated that installation and restoration of fire hydrants is in progress at multiple locations, including the furniture market near Gulzar-e-Sadiq, while building owners have been issued notices to complete required safety measures by February 28.
The meeting was further informed that private hospitals, commercial centers, and shopping plazas have been directed to improve fire safety arrangements. In densely populated areas such as Model Town and key commercial zones, hydrant identification and installation work is ongoing in collaboration with WASA, alongside repairs of non-functional hydrants. Rescue 1122 is also conducting awareness sessions, mock drills, and training programs for building owners to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
Deputy Commissioner Syed Hassan Raza directed all concerned departments to strengthen coordination and adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding fire safety compliance to safeguard lives and property. He emphasized that building plans for new commercial structures will not be approved without a fire safety certificate and instructed that non-functional hydrants highlighted by the media be restored immediately. The meeting was attended by district officials and representatives of relevant departments.
