LAHORE, Jul 14 (APP):A high-level delegation of Punjab Agriculture department led by Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani visited Egypt.
The delegation consisted of Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Usama Khan Leghari, Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, and other senior officials, said a press release issued here on Monday.
During the visit, the delegation visited high-value agriculture model farms in Egypt and observed model farms of citrus fruits, dates, peaches, grapes, olives, mangoes, sweet potatoes and other crops.
The delegation also visited state-of-the-art fruit and vegetable packhouses.
Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that Egypt’s experience of practicing high-value agriculture in desert areas was commendable and worth replicating. He further emphasized that the Punjab Agriculture department would take practical steps to establish similar agricultural models. Models of irrigation systems implemented in Egyptian deserts would be introduced in the Thal and Cholistan regions of Punjab, he added.
Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Usama Khan Leghari suggested providing facilities to farmers for setting up such model farms. Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo reaffirmed his commitment to promote mechanized and high-value agriculture in Punjab on the lines of Egyptian models.
The members of the delegation gained valuable insights into modern agricultural practices during their visit to Egypt.
