LAHORE, Jan 15 (APP):Under the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has launched a project to establish dedicated biker lanes in Lahore, marking the first initiative of its kind in the provincial capital.
The project aims to enhance traffic flow and ensure the safety of cyclists and motorcyclists.
Commissioner Lahore Zaid-bin-Maqsood, accompanied by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, on Wednesday visited Ferozepur Road to inspect the ongoing work on the biker lane project. Officials, including the Chief Engineer, Project Director, and traffic officers, briefed the Commissioner on the progress.
As part of the first phase, a 10-kilometer-long biker lane is being constructed on both sides of Ferozepur Road, extending from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge. These lanes are being separated from the main road with curbs and marked with eco-friendly green paint to ensure visibility and safety. The lanes, which are 12 feet wide, are designed to accommodate both cyclists and motorcyclists.
During the visit, the Commissioner stressed the importance of such projects for improving urban traffic management and reducing road accidents. He remarked that the dedicated biker lanes would not only ease traffic congestion but also provide safer commuting options for bikers. The Commissioner further instructed officials to ensure strict adherence to traffic safety regulations, particularly for bikers making turns at intersections.
In addition to inspecting the biker lane project, the Commissioner reviewed the development work under the Gulberg Scheme, expressing satisfaction with its progress. He urged the authorities to complete all projects within their designated timeline.
