HYDERABAD, Jan 08 (APP):District Election Commissioner, Shaheed Benazirabad Muhammad Yousuf Majidano, presided an important meeting of IDCC (Inter-Departmental Coordination Committee) at his office on Thursday.
The meeting was convened regarding measures to reduce the gender gap between male and female voters in Shaheed Benazirabad district. During meeting, detailed discussions were held on the registration of female voters in the district, their participation in the electoral process, and existing disparity in voters’ lists.
District Election Commissioner Muhammad Yousuf Majidano said that reducing the gap between male and female voters is among top priorities of the Election Commission of Pakistan, for which a coordinated strategy and cooperation of all stakeholders are essential. He said that with the support of NADRA, the District Election Commissioner’s Office, Shaheed Benazirabad, has ensured voter registration by facilitating the issuance of national identity cards to women on a large scale over the past few months. However, despite these efforts, a gap still exists between the registration of male and female voters, he said.
DEC emphasized that to further reduce this gap, all relevant departments and social organizations should make the process of women’s national identity card registration, awareness campaigns, and door-to-door voter registration more effective, so that maximum number of women can be included in voters’ lists. The meeting also stressed the need to organize special awareness programs in rural and underdeveloped areas.
At the conclusion of meeting, it was decided that practical measures would be taken in light of the recommendations of IDCC committee, and progress would be reviewed regularly to effectively reduce gender gap among voters in the district.
The meeting was attended by NADRA Zonal Incharge Rafiq Ahmed Bular, District Population Officer Riaz Ahmed Shar, Deputy District Health Officer Dr. Ashfaq Mashori, Assistant Director Local Government Sabir Otho, Assistant Director Social Welfare Zulfiqar Rind, Farhana Naz, Farhana Saleh, Shabana Naz, Masroor Memon, and representatives of various social organizations.
