RAWALPINDI, Jul 09 (APP):The Divisional Coordination Committee (DCC) Rawalpindi on Wednesday instructed all relevant departments to remain alert and be fully prepared to deal with emergencies in the wake of ongoing monsoon rainspell.
The committee, which met with Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Amir Khattak in the chair, reviewed the situation arisen out of monsoon rains, drainage of rain water and other issues, cleaning of Leh Nullah and encroachments.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Syed Nazarat Ali, Water and Sanitation Agency Managing Director Saleem Ashraf, Director Health and heads of other relevant institutions.
The meeting was informed that on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the WASA Rawalpindi had been fully mobilized in view of the recent rains.
It was directed that all WASA machinery should remain in the field to ensure immediate water drainage after rains.
Complete cleaning of the Leh Nullah was instructed along with immediate removal of debris, garbage and other obstacles from its sides.
“All measures to prevent flooding in the Leh Nullah should be completed in a timely manner,” the meeting further directed.
It was also instructed that rainwater should not be allowed to stagnate, which, otherwise, would increase the risk of dengue virus spread. Moreover, grass and bushes should be removed, with spraying disinfectants in the affected areas.
The meeting directed strict enforcement of the ban on swimming in storm drains and rivers.
