TANK, Oct 12 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Tank, Tanveer Khan Khattak, has taken remarkable steps to resolve one of the district’s most pressing issues i.e. shortage of clean drinking water. His efforts have been widely lauded by the residents of Tank, who describe his initiatives as “unprecedented in the district’s history.”
For the first time, a comprehensive and sustainable water supply system is being established in Tank. Recognizing the acute water scarcity faced by the community, DC Tanveer Khan ensured the installation of new tube wells in key localities, including Mohallah Sabirabad (near Sabir Baba Mazar), Phool Shah, Civl Line, Mehsudan, Razaq Colony, Government High School No. 1, and PHE Colony.
All newly installed tube wells have been equipped with modern solar systems and connected through a network of new pipelines to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
A major component of this initiative is the construction of a 120,000-gallon storage reservoir at Tanchi, designed to store water from Zam and Sheikh Bagh areas, along with three existing tube wells and one new well near Luqman Check Post. A 24-inch diameter main pipeline will supply this stored water to the entire Tank city on a daily basis.
The previously non-functional tube well at Tanchi has also been reactivated and linked to the main storage reservoir, allowing regular water distribution across the city. Future tube wells will be installed based on public consultation and strict merit to ensure transparency and equitable access to clean drinking water.
In addition to infrastructure development, DC Tanveer Khan ordered a comprehensive audit of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department’s tube wells, after receiving public complaints about mismanagement and political favoritism. The inquiry revealed several tube wells installed within private compounds and others producing non-potable, brackish water due to negligence. Following the findings, the provincial government suspended several PHE officials found responsible for irregularities.
Residents and local elders have praised DC Tanveer Khan for his transparent investigations, people-centered approach, and commitment to ensuring clean drinking water, calling his tenure a turning point in addressing Tank’s decades-old water crisis.
