DC Abbottabad inspects drainage system, orders strengthened flood prevention measures amid heavy rain

ABBOTTABAD, Jun 18 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram conducted an extensive visit to various parts of the city amid ongoing rainfall to review drainage arrangements, cleaning of drains, and precautionary measures against possible flash flooding.
Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Afraisiab Zubair Hindal accompanied him during the visit. Officials from the Irrigation Department, including SDO Danish Shah, briefed the Deputy Commissioner on ongoing drainage clearance and sanitation operations.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of sanitation workers and directed authorities to further improve the quality and effectiveness of drainage maintenance work. He visited several key locations including City Area, Fawara Chowk, Supply, Hassan Town, Mandiyaan, Bypass Road, College Road, Burn Hall College, Kaghan Colony, and Jab Pul, where he reviewed water flow conditions and drainage performance.
He instructed the Irrigation Department, Cantonment Board, WASA, and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) to ensure continuous monitoring of choke points to prevent blockages caused by garbage or soil accumulation, which could result in urban flooding and public inconvenience.
Emphasizing coordinated efforts, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to adopt a joint strategy for effective drainage management, proper disposal of debris, and long-term solutions to sewerage issues. He stressed that protecting citizens from flash flood risks remains the top priority of the district administration.
Under the directives of the District Administration Abbottabad, cleaning of drains, removal of garbage, and trimming of roadside vegetation is continuing in the Galyat region to ensure smooth drainage and maintain environmental cleanliness. The administration has appealed to citizens to support the cleanliness drive by disposing of waste only in designated bins or approved dumping sites.
The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Havelian, under the supervision of the district administration, is also actively carrying out drainage cleaning and garbage removal operations in its jurisdiction. Residents have been urged to cooperate with the authorities and ensure proper waste disposal to help maintain cleanliness and prevent drainage blockages.
