CTP steps up crackdown on ‘applied for’ & bogus number plates in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Feb 12 (APP):The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have intensified enforcement across the district against vehicles and motorcycles displaying “applied for”, non-standard or bogus number plates to ensure compliance with the law.
According to a CTP spokesman on Thursday, special checking points have been established at all entry and exit routes of the city, while action against violators is under way throughout the district.
He said that during the current month, as many as 1,755 challan tickets have been issued to vehicles and motorcycles bearing “applied for” or numberless plates.
The spokesman said Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam had directed that vehicles and motorcycles found displaying “applied for” plates be issued challans and impounded at the relevant police station. Such vehicles would be released to their owners only after proper registration, he added.
The CTO also ordered strict legal action against those using fake or fabricated number plates, stressing that a number plate “is the legal identity of a vehicle and concealing it constitutes an offence”.
The spokesman urged citizens to ensure timely registration of their vehicles and motorcycles to avoid legal action and to use number plates strictly in accordance with the prescribed design.
Maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring the safety of road users remained the top priority of Rawalpindi Traffic Police, he added.
