RAWALPINDI, Dec 30 (APP): The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has devised a comprehensive and coordinated traffic plan for the New Year’s Eve to ensure public safety and the smooth flow of traffic.
According to a CTP spokesman, more than 600 traffic personnel have been deployed across the city, while seven special squads have been formed to curb one-wheeling, racing, car skidding and other forms of reckless driving.
The squads will remain active on major thoroughfares, including Mall Road, Peshawar Road, Bank Road, Jhelum Road, Old Airport Road, Murree Road and Sixth Road.
Additional traffic personnel will be deployed at churches, parks and recreational spots to manage traffic during religious and public celebrations.
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam directed all circle and sector in-charges to maintain full coordination and keep strict watch on vehicles with tinted glasses, unregistered vehicles and those with irregular or missing number plates, warning that violators would face strict legal action.
In a video message, the CTO warned that one-wheeling would not be allowed under any circumstances, adding that strict legal action would be taken against those found indulging in the practice.
He also cautioned against harassing families, engaging in rowdiness or scuffles, and causing public disturbance, describing such acts as criminal offences that would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The CTO said there was a complete ban on unauthorised alterations to motorcycles, including the removal of cylinders, adding that workshops were being monitored and those involved in such practices would be arrested.
He urged parents to closely supervise their children during the New Year’s celebrations and refrain from allowing minors to ride motorcycles or drive vehicles to avoid legal complications.
The CTO appealed to citizens to celebrate the New Year peacefully and responsibly, and to avoid unlawful activities that could create problems for themselves and others.
