ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP): Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam on Thursday ordered stringent measures across the district to improve the traffic system, ensure smooth flow and enforce laws with full vigour.
He directed a rigorous crackdown against violations, including riding without helmets, one-way driving, overloading and smoke-emitting vehicles.
The CTO stressed that helmet use among motorcyclists must be ensured without exception, while stricter steps should be taken to curb one-way violations. He also instructed that first information reports (FIRs) be registered against transporters involved in overloading.
Farhan Aslam said advance arrangements should be made to counter smog, directing that vehicles emitting smoke be impounded at police stations until they obtained fitness certificates.
He added that in case of any traffic violation, driving licences must first be checked and, in the absence of a licence, violators should face additional penalties along with fines for the original offence.
The CTO also tasked the Education Unit with running daily awareness campaigns on smog control, and warned that legal proceedings would be initiated against those persisting with encroachments despite repeated warnings.
He emphasised that preventing accidents and maintaining organised traffic required strict compliance with the law, which would be ensured at all costs.
“There is no tolerance for traffic violations in Rawalpindi,” he affirmed, making it clear that circle in-charges would be held accountable for traffic blockages or negligence in enforcement.
