KARACHI, Aug 09 (APP):The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Friday the arrest of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officer accused of orchestrating the murder of a religious leader.
According to DSP CTD Chaudhry Safdar, the arrest was made during an operation by the CTD’s Investigation Wing in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, following a tip-off. The suspect, FIA Inspector Atiq Alam, is alleged to have masterminded the targeted killing of Sufi Abdul Qayyum.
Sufi Abdul Qayyum, a prayer leader, was murdered by two hired killers, Ali Akbar and Tanveer, after Fajr prayer on February 21st, reportedly over a property dispute. The contract for the killing was allegedly given by Atiq Alam for 500,000 rupees.
Alam, who had been on the run for one and a half years following the arrest of the hired killers, was finally apprehended by the CTD. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
