LAHORE, Nov 01 (APP):The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab foiled a major terrorist plot by arresting 18 terrorists affiliated with banned organisations during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across the province over the past month.
According to a CTD spokesperson, a total of 386 intelligence-based operations were carried out in various districts to prevent potential acts of terrorism. During these operations, 386 suspects were interrogated, and 18 terrorists were apprehended with weapons, explosives, and other banned materials.
The arrested terrorists were identified as Muhammad Karim, Ali Raza, Muhammad Aziz, Muhammad Ali, Hashim, Noorul Amin, Saleem, Saddam, and others. They are reportedly associated with Fitna al-Khawarij and other outlawed groups. The operations were conducted in Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Khushab, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Narowal, and Pakpattan districts.
Recovered items from the arrested suspects include 3,020 grams of explosives, 14 detonators, 33 feet of safety fuse wire, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 151 pamphlets of banned organizations, magazines, prima cards, mobile phones, and cash. The spokesperson said the terrorists had planned to target key buildings in different cities. Eighteen cases have been registered against the arrested terrorists, and further investigations are underway.
The spokesperson further informed that during the same period, CTD Punjab, in collaboration with local police and security agencies, conducted 4,601 combing operations, checking 109,892 individuals, arresting 320 suspects, registering 314 FIRs, and making 282 recoveries.
The Counter-Terrorism Department reiterated its resolve to ensure a safe and secure Punjab, vowing to continue operations until every terrorist and anti-state element is brought to justice. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activity or information to the CTD helpline at 0800-11111.
