PESHAWAR, Jun 30 (APP):In a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, a comprehensive set of directives were issued here on Monday to enhance flood preparedness, ensure public safety, and improve emergency response across the province.
To curb illegal constructions, the Chief Secretary instructed immediate initiation of demarcation along rivers, while the law enforcement has been directed to enforce Section 144 along riverbanks to prevent unauthorized access and reduce flood-related risks.
Emphasis was placed on continued mock drills for Rescue 1122 personnel to enhance operational readiness. It was also decided to train local communities in emergency response techniques, ensuring grassroots-level preparedness.
All departments were instructed to maintain a constant presence at flood-prone hotspots, and commissioners across the province were ordered to conduct regular reviews of the Flood Response Plan.
The Chief Secretary stressed the need for merit-based recruitment in Rescue 1122 to maintain professionalism and efficiency in disaster response.
He also directed that the ongoing cleaning operations of streams and drainage channels be expedited to minimize flood risks.
The Chief Secretary ordered all hotels in tourist areas to be equipped with life jackets and emergency equipment. The Tourism Department was tasked with issuing regular travel advisories and ensuring that 224 hotels, which had already upgraded their sewage systems, were followed by strict action against the remaining non-compliant facilities.
A review of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued for construction on riverbeds was also ordered, with a clear directive to take action against officials who have issued unlawful NOCs.
To strengthen early warning systems, the Chief Secretary called for the digitization of alerts through the ‘Relief Pulse’ mobile app. Alerts will also be shared via social media and SMS to keep the public informed during emergencies.
Additionally, the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief) in each district will serve as the first-response hub during any emergency situation.
The meeting also included briefings on price control, environmental protection campaigns in tourist zones, and updates on developmental projects and procurement processes.
