MULTAN, Aug 02 (APP):Crop Reporting Service (CRS) of Punjab Agriculture Department on Friday released its first report of the ongoing cotton season till July 31, 2024, stating that production of seed cotton (Phutti) has reached a figure equivalent to 450,000 bales of cotton, 4.2 per cent up from previous season when production stood at 432,000 bales.
Agriculture spokesman citing the CRS report said that the average cotton boll weight in northern Punjab was found to be 3.77 gram, down by 5.5 per cent, from 3.99 gram recorded in the previous cotton season. However, in south Punjab, the average weight of cotton bolls witnessed an incremental gain of 0.6 per cent, from 3.42 gram in the previous season to 3.44 gram in the ongoing season.
The CRS wing of Punjab Agriculture Department would release the next fortnightly cotton production report on Aug 15, 2024, the spokesman said.
Abdul Samad, a senior official from agriculture information directorate Multan said that CRS used to release cotton production statistics earlier but now it has been decided the report would be released to media fortnightly.
