Crackdown on price hike violations in Karachi intensified

KARACHI, Jul 04 (APP):Campaign against profiteering continues with significant results, a monthly report released by the Commissioner Karachi’s office on Friday highlights strict action taken during the month of June, resulting in fines exceeding Rs 5.67 million against violators across the city.
Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi, has directed all Deputy Commissioners to strengthen the ongoing campaign and ensure the enforcement of government-approved rates for essential food items. He emphasized the need for effective measures to provide relief to citizens and strictly implement official prices.
According to the report, Assistant Commissioners inspected prices at 6,992 locations citywide. Of these, over 2,800 shops were found to be in compliance with pricing regulations. However, violations were found across various districts, with fines imposed as follows.
In South, East, and Central districts over Rs 1.2 million fine was imposed against violators.
A special campaign targeting overpricing of beef, chicken, and naan was launched in July. During recent operations, fines amounting to Rs 348,000 were imposed, and three shops were sealed for violating government price controls. Additionally, 40 shopkeepers were issued warnings.
Commissioner Naqvi has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to enforce the official rates for beef, chicken, and naan across the city without exception.
