FAISALABAD, Oct 01 (APP):Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar announced the launch of a major crackdown to curb increasing air pollution and smog in the region.
Chairing a meeting, he stated that inspection teams from the Environmental Protection
Department (EPD) had examined over 1,000 industrial units, resulting in fines totaling
Rs 3.3 million for violations of anti-smog standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Several boilers were also sealed for non-compliance.
The commissioner added that 900 brick kilns were inspected, and Rs 400,000 in fines
were imposed on violators.
To improve indoor air quality, he directed the owners and managers of commercial plazas
and shopping malls to install air purifiers.
He also ordered the implementation of an air quality forecasting system to monitor pollution
trends and take timely preventive action.
Commissioner Anwar emphasized that construction sites must be equipped with dust nets,
and regular sprinkling of water on roads should be ensured to reduce dust levels.
As an added measure, he instructed authorities to deploy smog guns across Faisalabad
during smog season to help control air pollution.
Earlier, Deputy Director EPD Usman Azhar briefed the commissioner on ongoing efforts
and pledged full implementation of anti-smog SOPs.
