Crackdown against professional beggars continues, 160 arrested so far

RAWALPINDI, Jul 30 (APP):Some 160 professional beggars have been arrested so far in the crackdown launched across the Rawalpindi city on the instructions of City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani.
The crackdown against beggars continued without let-up for last 17 days and would continue till the elimination of the menace as per the vision of Punjab chief minister, the Rawalpindi Police spokesman said on Tuesday.
He said special squads had been formed to take action against the professional beggars as most of them were also involved in theft, drug trafficking and other crimes.
Strict surveillance was being maintained to prevent begging in busy markets and roads, the spokesman said.
