RAWALPINDI, Jun 26 (APP): City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani on Thursday chaired meetings to review security arrangements and efforts to maintain sectarian harmony and peace during Muharram-ul- Haram.
Besides the senior police officers across the division, the first meeting was held at the Police Lines Headquarters especially attended by eminent Ulema and scholars, peace committee members, officials of the Traders Association, custodians and organizers of Imambargahs and processions, officials of voluntary organizations and members of civil society.
The participants of the meeting observed that peace would be further strengthened through such regular contacts.
The Ulema and religious scholars agreed on exercising tolerance for peace. “We are all a Muslim nation and together we will promote peace, order, tolerance and brotherhood,” they committed.
CPO Hamdani affirmed that the Rawalpindi Police was committed to foolproof security arrangements in light of the orders of the Punjab Government.
He said with the cooperation of Ulema and religious scholars, the police would ensure complete peace and order. Like always, they all would help “ us (police) maintain peace and order”.
CPO Hamdani further said like the past the Rawalpindi Police were taking steps for the security of processions and gatherings.
“We will ensure the implementation of the standard operating procedures issued by the Punjab Government. We will fulfill the responsibility of providing the best security arrangements and the safety and convenience of the citizens at all costs,” he vowed.
The meeting concluded with prayers for the security of the country and the nation, the establishment of peace, order, tolerance and brotherhood.
The participants also paid tribute to the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies for the security of the country’s internal and external borders.
CPO Hamdani also chaired a meeting of high police police officials to review security arrangements regarding Muharram-ul-Haram.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, SSP Investigation, Chief Traffic Officer, divisional superintendents of police (SPs), SP Headquarters, SP Security, SP Security, sub-divisional police officers, station house officers and other officers and staff attended the meeting.
Officers gave a briefing about the security arrangements for Muharram in their respective areas.
CPO Hamdani, on the occasion, said the instructions and standard operating procedures of the Punjab Government would be implemented at all costs and no laxity in that regard would be tolerated.
SPs, SDPOs and SHOs would personally monitor the staff deployed on security of every gathering and procession, he directed.
He further directed that the body search of every person entering the procession was mandatory, while personnel would be deployed at rooftops, with streets sealed on the routes of the processions.
The processions would be fully monitored for security purposes, he added. Hotels, inns and guest houses on the routes of processions would be checked before hand, with the mandatory registration of people staying there, the CPO said.
Likewise, he said the registration of tenants at house was also mandatory as legal action would be taken against violations in that regard.
Parking of vehicles would not be allowed near Imambargahs, the CPO said.
He added that roads would be barricaded if necessary for the shortest time possible so that the traffic flow was maintained.
The CPO said social media and WhatsApp groups were being monitored to contain material promoting religious and sectarian hatred.
