FAISALABAD, Jul 22 (APP):An agronomist has advised cotton growers to follow the guidelines of the agriculture department for effective control of increasing attacks of whitefly on the crop nowadays.
Agriculture Director Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood said here Monday that the life span of the whitefly is very short in July and August due to high temperatures and humidity so it attacked the crop repeatedly.
He said that it was a common practice that farmers decide to spray whitefly after seeing the adult whitefly which is wrong, because 80% of the crop damage is caused by child whitefly.
He said that when deciding to spray the crop, the farmers should select poisonous pesticides that kill child whitefly. He said that recently various national and multinational companies were also marketing poisons with advanced chemistry that are very encouraging to control adult and child whitefly in the fields.
