Dera Ismail Khan , Jun 04 (APP):The Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday announced that it is fully prepared for Eid ul Azha 2025, with a comprehensive sanitation and cleanliness plan in place to ensure public hygiene and effective waste management across the city during the festive period.
The week-long sanitation campaign, titled “Sanitation Week,” will be observed from June 5 to June 11, with intensive operations during the three main Eid days — June 7 to 9.
Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohsin Habib stated, in an interview with APP, that the plan includes targeted operations for the collection and disposal of animal waste, temporary waste dumping points, city-wide street cleaning, community engagement, and emergency response services. “Our goal is to provide a clean and healthy environment to the citizens during this important religious occasion,” he said.
WSSC has conducted a detailed pre-Eid assessment, identifying areas expected to generate large volumes of waste such as residential neighborhoods, mosques, markets, and public spaces. Sanitation workers, waste collection vehicles, and other essential tools have been allocated accordingly.
Temporary collection points will be set up in high-traffic zones, and waste from these will be transferred to a designated dumping site before final disposal in pre-excavated pits. A city-wide collection schedule has also been issued to address the anticipated spike in waste volume.
To promote responsible waste disposal, biodegradable bags of various sizes will be distributed to households, along with informational brochures on waste segregation. Awareness campaigns will run across print, radio, social media, and banners throughout the city.
Chairman of WSSC Board of Directors Naimat Ullah Khan Gandapur emphasized the importance of community collaboration, stating, “We are engaging local organizations, religious leaders, and volunteers to support this initiative. Public participation is crucial to the success of our efforts.”
WSSC will also deploy additional street sweeping teams and private labor to ensure thorough cleaning of roads and animal slaughter sites. Disinfection using lime powder and rapid removal of animal waste and food remains will be carried out to prevent disease outbreaks.
To handle any emergency situations, seven sanitation workers with four pickup vehicles will be on standby. Control rooms have been established at the WSSC Head Office and the Zonal Office near Imamia Gate. A dedicated social media response team will remain active throughout the week to address public complaints promptly.
Monitoring teams will conduct inspections, maintain data on waste collection, and gather public feedback to improve future services.
Both the CEO and Chairman reaffirmed WSSC DI Khan’s commitment to ensuring a clean, hygienic, and pleasant environment for all residents during Eid ul Azha.
