PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly discussed the issue of compensation and aid to victims of landmine blasts during its session presided over by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati here on Thursday.
MPA Asif Khan presented a call attention notice, highlighting that despite the passage of 15 years, victims in Upper South Waziristan have not received compensation.
He further stated that people whose houses were destroyed during military operations have also not been provided any assistance, leaving many in severe distress.
In response, Law Minister Aftab Alam mentioned that the Relief Department handles this matter and that financial aid is provided to the victims through a committee under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner. He emphasized the importance of this issue and the need for immediate resolution.
Housing Minister Dr. Amjad termed the matter a humanitarian issue, noting that such incidents are occurring continuously across the country and need urgent attention.
He suggested forming a special committee to summon the Chief Secretary and the concerned Deputy Commissioner for a detailed discussion on the matter.
JUI member Adnan Khan stated that this problem is not limited to South Waziristan but is prevalent across all tribal districts. He also mentioned that despite being a victim of a blast in 2013, he has yet to receive any compensation.
MPA Tufail Anjum confirmed that as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Relief, he had requested details over the past year but had not received them. He also supported the formation of a special committee.
Finally, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, after a vote in the Assembly, referred the call attention notice to the relevant Standing Committee to address the challenges faced by the victims.
