QUETTA, Jul 16 (APP):Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar on Wednesday vowed to address the growing concerns of the trader community regarding parking, sanitation, traffic congestion, and commercial disruption in the city.
The Commissioner presided the meeting, held in Quetta, attended by Deputy Commissioner Quetta Captain (R) Mehar Ullah Badeni, Assistant Commissioner (Political) Syed Kaleem Ullah, President of Central Traders Association Rahim Kakar, General Secretary Yasin Mengal, and several other representatives from trader organizations.
During the session, a number of key issues affecting business and daily life in Quetta were discussed including the lack of parking facilities in no-parking zones, which is affecting customer accessibility and trade activities.
The Traders expressed concerns over the closure of traffic at Abdul Sattar Road, a major commercial artery, garbage accumulation on Mecongi Road, especially around garbage dumps and construction debris.
“Poor solid waste management and traffic congestion in the city, which have led to a decline in business activity and growing public frustration, “they highlighted.
Speaking to the participants, Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar acknowledged the gravity of traffic and sanitation issues plaguing the city. He reiterated that the implementation of no-parking zones is a decision taken by the provincial cabinet and cannot be reversed without a viable alternative system in place. “There will be no compromise on no-parking zones,” he asserted, emphasizing that these measures are essential for traffic flow and urban order, especially in key business districts.
However, he assured traders that all issues will be considered with thorough consultation, and collaborative solutions will be explored. “Quetta is facing serious challenges related to traffic, waste disposal, and drainage. These problems require immediate and collective action,” he said.
The Commissioner further stated that practical steps will be taken to address the waste disposal problem. Vendors will be required to contribute to garbage collection efforts, and dedicated disposal systems will be introduced to ensure cleaner surroundings.
The administration also plans to review the capacity and management of private parking facilities to determine their effectiveness and availability. “We will explore alternative parking arrangements for both shopkeepers and customers in commercial areas,” Kakar noted.
He added that specific instructions will be issued to Safa Quetta, to manage waste dumps on Double Road and Mecongi Road.
Commissioner Kakar highlighted the critical role of the trader community in supporting administrative efforts. “Quetta belongs to all of us. We must come together to improve and beautify our city. Resolving urban issues, especially traffic, will not be possible without the cooperation of traders,” he stressed.
The Commissioner reaffirmed that the district administration is committed to finding logical, inclusive, and sustainable solutions to the city’s issues, with a focus on balancing business interests and civic development.
