RAWALPINDI, Jun 24 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Amir Khattak on Tuesday visited Imambargah Colonel Syed Maqbool Hussain and Qadeemi Imambargah to review security arrangements in the wake of forthcoming Muharram-ul-Haram.
Flanked by City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, and other senior officers of the police and district administration, he held meeting with the custodians of Imambargahs.
The commissioner inspected the entrance and exit routes of the Imambargahs, sound systems and CCTV cameras. He also reviewed the arrangements for gatherings, including seating arrangements both for men and women.
On the occasion, he said on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the best security and other arrangements would be ensured.
He asked the custodians and organizers to take special care of the timings of gatherings (Majalis) and processions, and ensure adherence to the fixed routes of the processions.
He said priority should be given to the safety and convenience of citizens at all times.
DC Cheema said the standard operating procedures issued by the Punjab Government regarding Muharram gatherings and processions would be implemented strictly.
The district administrations and law enforcement agencies, he said, had been directed to remain fully alert.
CPO Hamdani said a foolproof plan had been formed for the security of processions and gatherings.
The routes of processions would be monitored through Safe City and other CCTV cameras, while a special control room would work round the clock, he added.
The Rawalpindi Police and District Administration in collaboration with Ulema and elders of all schools of religious thought, business community and civil society, would ensure exemplary peace and order in the city, he added.
Meanwhile, DC Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, along with District Police Officer Asif Amin Awan and Additional Deputy Commissioner General Kamran Sagheer visited the Central Imambargah Murree and Treat Syedan Imambagarh, and reviewed the security arrangements for Muharram in detail.
He also issued instructions to the relevant authorities regarding foolproof security arrangements.
