KARACHI, Jul 30 (APP):Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, has taken serious notice of the violation of government-fixed sugar prices and initiated a crackdown across the Karachi division. On the first day of the operation, action was taken against 87 shopkeepers involved in overpricing, resulting in fines totaling Rs. 1.077 million.
Authorities sealed seven shops, including six in Aram Bagh and one in the Saddar Subdivision, while two individuals were arrested for profiteering.
Commissioner Naqvi also directed all Deputy Commissioners to form special teams comprising Assistant Commissioners and Mukhtiarkars to monitor and ensure the implementation of official sugar prices in their respective districts.
According to Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso, action was taken against 32 violators in the district, with fines amounting to Rs. 371,000. Seven shops were sealed, and two profiteers were arrested during the operation.
Deputy Commissioner East, Abrar Jaffar, reported action against 25 retailers in the district, resulting in fines exceeding Rs. 525,000.
In the district West, action against 2 shopkeepers; fine of Rs. 6,000, in district Keamari, action against 13 retailers; fine of Rs. 45,000, in district Central, action against 5 profiteers was taken and fine of Rs. 25,000 was imposed against them.
In district Malir, action against 3 violators was initiated and charged a fine of Rs. 75,000. In district Korangi, action against 7 shopkeepers was taken and fine of Rs. 30,000 imposed.
The campaign is part of the city administration’s ongoing efforts to curb profiteering and ensure price stability for essential commodities.
