RAWALPINDI, Nov 04 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Engr Aamir Khattak, accompanied by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa, on Tuesday visited Gurdwara Sri Punja Sahib in Hassan Abdal to review security and administrative arrangements ahead of the celebrations marking the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza, District Police Officer (DPO) Sardar Moharram Khan and other police and administrative officers were also present.
During the visit, the commissioner and the RPO examined security and organisational measures in detail. The deputy commissioner and the DPO briefed them on the security plan, monitoring of entry and exit points, checking arrangements, CCTV surveillance, traffic management and facilities being extended to the visiting pilgrims.
They were informed that foolproof security had been ensured in and around the gurdwara, while route plans, parking areas, accommodation, sanitation, medical camps, drinking water arrangements, traffic management and other municipal services had been fully organised for pilgrims arriving from within the country and abroad.
RPO Alpa directed officers on duty to further enhance patrolling around the gurdwara and along main routes, ensure coordinated internal and external security, and maintain vigilance to prevent any untoward incident.
He instructed that visiting pilgrims — particularly foreign guests — be facilitated with courtesy and cooperation, and that special arrangements be ensured for women and children.
He also called for a prompt-response desk for missing items or persons, effective monitoring through Safe City cameras and a fully functional communication link with the Command and Control Room. Coordination among Rescue 1122, the district administration and the police was to be strengthened for any emergency situation, he added.
The RPO said the Rawalpindi Region Police remained committed to promoting interfaith harmony, tolerance and peace. He directed all officers and personnel to perform their duties with a sense of devotion and ensure a peaceful, secure and welcoming environment for all pilgrims.
He added that the Attock Police were fully alert and providing foolproof security, with all departments working in close coordination to maintain exemplary law and order during the celebrations.
Commissioner Khattak appreciated the efforts of the police and the district administration, stating that the arrangements made for the comfort and security of pilgrims were exemplary. He instructed the relevant departments to further improve all arrangements and ensure maximum facilitation so that pilgrims may perform their religious obligations without any difficulty.
He added that the Punjab government’s efforts to promote interfaith harmony and tolerance were commendable, and directed that municipal services, sanitation, medical assistance, water supply and smooth traffic flow be ensured, with police deployed at all entry and exit points as a matter of priority.
At the conclusion of the visit, both the commissioner and the RPO expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and appreciated the efforts of the Attock District administration and police.
